Cellers de Can Suriol has been on the same land in the Penedés, farmed by the Suriol family since the 1600s. Over those many many years the farm has shifted from a mix of agriculture and animals to a vineyard, has survived Phylloxera in 1890, released its first bottled wines to local taverns in the 1940s, expanded to a public market in the 1980s, and to organic agriculture in the 1990s. Phew! They are most well known for their Cavas but the Azimut line is full of joyful and easy wines for sharing in the hopes of promoting organic agriculture. Brisat (Brisa means pomace in Catalan) is the name for skin contact white wines in the Penedes regions and this one sees five days on the skins and then 3 months in underground tank. It is a light orange wine with approachable fruit and freshness. A must for spring time sipping with friends and flexible with all sorts of meals.
