Domaine François Villard L'Appel des Sereines Syrah

Availability: In stock

Francois Villard grew up between Vienne and Grenoble, in the French countryside. He came to wine through a career as a chef, and began big by trying his hand at Condrieu.  Now he makes a wine from almost all Northern Rhône regions, working with 64 organically managed hectares, 40 of which he owns. Villard farms sustainably and will be certified organic this year.  For this cuvée, declassified as a Vin de France, he’s blending young-vine fruit from four parcels ranging from Ardoix in St-Joseph to St-Michel-sur-Rhône, and Vérin near Condrieu. Native fermented and 25% whole cluster, the juice goes through a 12 day maceration in open-top wood vats followed by 11 months aging, half in the vat and half in neutral barrels. This achieves a full natural ripeness, but his wines are never hot, always nuanced and beautifully aromatic.  We've been carrying this wine for years, but have just recently fallen back in love with it!
