Açores Wine Company Branco Vulcânico
The Açores Wine Company is the Azorean project of winemaker António Maçanita (see our red wine of the week!). The Azores are gorgeous volcanic islands located approximately 1000 miles off the Portuguese mainland. The island of Pico, where this wine is produced, is dominated by the volcano Ponto do Pico, Portugal’s highest mountain. The soil is entirely black volcanic basalt, which puts enormous stress on the vines, lowering yields. These vineyards are at sea level, only 50 meters from the Atlantic. This wine has fantastic minerality and salinity, and may be our new favorite seafood wine in the shop.
